  • 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
  • 2 ounces Parmesan cheese, grated
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Optional: garlic powder, red pepper flakes, everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  • Proof the yeast in warm water with sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
  • In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture, flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead until smooth and elastic.
  • Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions.
  • Roll out each portion into a large circle.
  • Place one circle on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Top with parsley.
  • Place the second circle on top of the cheese layer.
  • Cut the dough into triangles, leaving a small circle in the center intact to form the tree trunk.
  • Twist each triangle a few times.
  • Brush with melted butter and sprinkle with optional seasonings.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 375°F (190°C) for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown.
