- 1 package (0.25 ounce) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 1 cup warm water (105-115°F)
- 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for dusting
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons olive oil, plus more for brushing
- 8 ounces mozzarella cheese, shredded
- 2 ounces Parmesan cheese, grated
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley
- 1/4 cup melted butter
- Optional: garlic powder, red pepper flakes, everything bagel seasoning
- Proof the yeast in warm water with sugar. Let stand for 5-10 minutes until foamy.
- In a large bowl, combine the yeast mixture, flour, salt, and olive oil. Knead until smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- Punch down the dough and divide it into two equal portions.
- Roll out each portion into a large circle.
- Place one circle on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- Sprinkle with mozzarella and Parmesan cheese. Top with parsley.
- Place the second circle on top of the cheese layer.
- Cut the dough into triangles, leaving a small circle in the center intact to form the tree trunk.
