Ingredients

  • All-Purpose Flour
  • Baking Powder
  • Baking Soda
  • Salt
  • Unsalted Butter
  • Brown Sugar
  • Granulated Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Molasses
  • Candied Fruits (cherries, pineapple, orange peel, citron)
  • Dried Fruits (raisins, currants, dates)
  • Nuts (walnuts, pecans, almonds)
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Nutmeg
  • Cloves
  • Allspice
  • Rum or Rum Extract (Optional)

Instructions

  • Combine dry ingredients: flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and spices.
  • Cream together softened butter, brown sugar, and granulated sugar.
  • Beat in eggs, vanilla extract, and molasses.
  • Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Stir in candied fruits, dried fruits, and nuts. Add rum or rum extract, if using.
  • Chill the dough for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • Scoop dough onto prepared baking sheets.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, or until edges are golden brown.
  • Let cool completely on baking sheets before transferring to a wire rack.
  • Dust with powdered sugar, if desired.
