Instructions
Cream the Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and granulated sugar until light and fluffy.
Add the Egg and Extracts: Beat in the egg, almond extract, and vanilla extract until well combined.
Combine Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
Gradually Add Dry Ingredients to Wet Ingredients: Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Do not overmix.
Chill the Dough: Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill in the refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
Prepare Baking Sheets: Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
Roll Out the Dough: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the chilled dough to about ¼ inch thickness.
Cut Out the Cookies: Use Christmas-themed cookie cutters to cut out shapes.
Place on Baking Sheets: Place the cut-out cookies on the prepared baking sheets.
Bake: Bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
Cool: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Combine Powdered Sugar and Butter: In a large bowl, beat together the powdered sugar and softened butter until smooth and creamy.
Add Milk or Cream: Gradually add the milk or heavy cream, one tablespoon at a time, until the frosting reaches your desired consistency.
Add Flavorings: Stir in the vanilla extract.
Coloring (Optional): If you want to add color to your frosting, use gel food coloring.
Frost the Cookies: Frost the cookies with a generous layer of frosting.
Create the Swirl: Using a piping bag fitted with a star tip, pipe a swirl of frosting on top of each cookie.
Add Sprinkles: Immediately sprinkle the cookies with Christmas sprinkles before the frosting sets.
