Delicious gluten free orange chicken recipe Easy healthy and flavorful GF orange chicken

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 lbs boneless, skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1-inch pieces
  • 1 cup Gluten-Free Flour Blend
  • To taste Salt and Pepper
  • 1 large Egg, beaten
  • Vegetable or canola oil for frying
  • 1 cup Fresh squeezed orange juice
  • 2 tablespoons Orange Zest
  • 1/4 cup Gluten-Free Soy Sauce (Tamari)
  • 2 tablespoons Rice Vinegar
  • 1/4 cup Honey
  • 1 tablespoon Ginger, grated
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon Cornstarch mixed with 2 tablespoons cold water
  • 1/4 teaspoon Red Pepper Flakes (or more, to taste)
  • Sesame Seeds for garnish
  • Green Onions for garnish, thinly sliced

Instructions

  • Cut the chicken thighs into 1-inch pieces.
  • In a bowl, mix the gluten-free flour blend with salt and pepper.
  • Dip the chicken pieces into the beaten egg, then dredge them in the gluten-free flour mixture, ensuring they are fully coated.
  • Heat vegetable or canola oil in a deep fryer or large pot to 350-375°F (175-190°C).
  • Fry the chicken in batches for 5-7 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through. Use an instant-read thermometer to ensure chicken is cooked to an internal temperature of 165°F.
  • Remove the chicken and place it on a wire rack to drain excess oil. For extra crispy chicken, fry the pieces once, let them cool slightly, and then fry them again for a minute or two.
  • In a saucepan, combine fresh squeezed orange juice, orange zest, gluten-free soy sauce (Tamari), rice vinegar, honey, grated ginger, minced garlic, and red pepper flakes.
  • Bring the sauce to a simmer over medium heat. In a small bowl, whisk together cornstarch and cold water to create a slurry.
  • Slowly pour the cornstarch slurry into the simmering sauce, stirring constantly until the sauce thickens to a glossy consistency.
  • Add the fried chicken to the orange sauce and toss to coat evenly.
  • Garnish with sesame seeds and thinly sliced green onions. Serve immediately over rice or noodles.
