Maple Bourbon Eggnog recipe Creamy boozy holiday drink

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 large eggs
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup bourbon
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, whisk together the egg yolks, maple syrup, spices, and salt. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon (about 5-7 minutes).
  • Gradually whisk in the milk and heavy cream. Continue to cook over low heat for another 2-3 minutes, being careful not to boil.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the bourbon and vanilla extract. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  • In a separate bowl, beat the egg whites until stiff peaks form. Gently fold the whipped egg whites into the cooled eggnog base.
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Serve chilled, garnished with freshly grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick, if desired.
