Spiced Eggnog Twist Classic recipe delicious holiday beverage

  • 4 cups Whole Milk
  • 2 cups Heavy Cream
  • 6 large Egg Yolks
  • ¾ cup Granulated Sugar
  • ½ cup Dark Rum (Optional)
  • ¼ cup Bourbon (Optional)
  • 1 teaspoon Nutmeg, freshly grated
  • ½ teaspoon Cinnamon, ground
  • ¼ teaspoon Ginger, ground
  • ¼ teaspoon Cloves, ground
  • ⅛ teaspoon Allspice, ground
  • 1 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • Pinch of Salt
  • 2 ounces Salted Caramel Liqueur

Instructions

  • In a saucepan, combine whole milk, heavy cream, cinnamon, ginger, cloves, and allspice. Heat over medium heat until just simmering, stirring occasionally to prevent scorching.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks and granulated sugar until light and creamy.
  • Temper the egg yolks by slowly drizzling about half of the hot milk mixture into the egg yolk mixture, whisking constantly to prevent the eggs from scrambling.
  • Pour the tempered egg mixture back into the saucepan with the remaining milk mixture. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the mixture thickens slightly and coats the back of a spoon (about 160°F/71°C). Be careful not to boil.
  • Remove from heat and stir in vanilla extract, freshly grated nutmeg, salt, dark rum (optional), bourbon (optional), and salted caramel liqueur. Taste and adjust spices as needed.
  • Strain the eggnog through a fine-mesh sieve to remove any lumps or cooked egg particles. This will ensure a smooth and creamy texture.
  • Transfer the eggnog to a pitcher or airtight container and chill in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight, to allow the flavors to meld.
  • Before serving, whisk the eggnog to redistribute any settled spices. Serve chilled in festive mugs or glasses. Garnish with freshly grated nutmeg and a cinnamon stick, if desired.
