A delightful layered dessert featuring fresh strawberries, crunchy pistachio kataifi, and rich dark chocolate.

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. fresh strawberries cut into quarters or sliced
  • 2 Tbsp unsalted butter
  • 8 oz kataifi pastry dough roughly chopped
  • 1 cup pistachio cream
  • 1 Tbsp tahini optional but recommended
  • 6 oz dark chocolate roughly chopped
  • 1-2 tsp coconut oil
  • finely chopped pistachios
  • pinch of flaky sea salt

Instructions

  1. Wash and dry 1 lb. fresh strawberries.
  2. Slice strawberries into quarters.
  3. Set sliced strawberries aside.
  4. Add 2 Tbsp unsalted butter to a large skillet.
  5. Heat skillet over MED heat until butter is melted.
  6. Add 8 oz kataifi pastry dough to the skillet.
  7. Cook kataifi, stirring nearly constantly, for 8-12 minutes.
  8. Continue cooking until kataifi is golden brown and crisp.
  9. Remove kataifi from the heat.
  10. Let kataifi cool completely.
  11. Once cooled, stir 1 cup pistachio cream into the kataifi.
  12. Stir in 1 Tbsp tahini, if using.
  13. Set the pistachio kataifi mixture aside.
  14. Heat about an inch of water in a saucepan over MED heat.
  15. Place a glass bowl over the saucepan, ensuring it doesn't touch the water.
  16. Add 6 oz dark chocolate and 1-2 tsp coconut oil to the glass bowl.
  17. Stir often until the chocolate is gently melted and smooth.
  18. Alternatively, microwave chocolate and coconut oil in 20-30 second bursts, stirring between each.
  19. Prepare 4 stemless wine glasses, small glass jars, or dessert cups.
  20. Layer strawberries into the bottom of each glass.
  21. Next, layer the pistachio kataifi mixture over the strawberries.
  22. Pour melted chocolate over the kataifi layer.
  23. Repeat the layers: strawberries, pistachio kataifi, melted chocolate.
  24. Sprinkle finely chopped pistachios over the top of each glass.
  25. Add a pinch of flaky sea salt over the top of each glass.
  26. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure strawberries are completely dry before slicing.
Stir kataifi constantly while toasting to prevent burning.
Use good quality dark chocolate for the best flavor.
Assemble just before serving for optimal texture.
