Fudgy, chewy brownies infused with warm gingerbread spices, perfect for cozy days and holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup (2 sticks / 227 g) unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 ½ cups (300 g) light brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons molasses
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 ½ cups (312.5 g) all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon ground ginger
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • confectioners' sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Line a 9×9-inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang on the sides. Set it aside.
  3. In a large bowl, place the melted butter.
  4. Add the light brown sugar to the melted butter.
  5. Stir the butter and brown sugar together until well combined.
  6. Add the eggs, one at a time, to the butter and sugar mixture.
  7. Stir in the molasses.
  8. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  9. Mix until all the wet ingredients are well incorporated.
  10. In a medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, ground ginger, cinnamon, baking powder, and kosher salt.
  11. Gradually add the dry flour mixture into the wet butter and egg mixture.
  12. Stir until the flour mixture is completely combined into the wet ingredients and no dry streaks remain.
  13. Spread the brownie batter evenly into the prepared 9×9-inch pan.
  14. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until the edges are set and the center is no longer jiggly.
  15. If using a 9×13-inch pan, bake for 25-30 minutes.
  16. Remove the brownies from the oven.
  17. Allow the brownies to cool completely in the pan before proceeding.
  18. Once completely cool, sprinkle the top generously with confectioners' sugar.
  19. Cut the cooled brownies into squares.
  20. Serve immediately.

Notes

Ensure your eggs are at room temperature for the best texture.
Do not overmix the batter once the flour is added; this can make brownies tough.
Always allow brownies to cool completely for clean cuts and a fudgier texture.
For best flavor, use fresh ground ginger and cinnamon.
