An incredibly addictive and easy-to-make sweet and salty treat, perfect for holidays or any time you need a quick dessert.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 40 saltine crackers – 1 package
  • 1 cup unsalted butter
  • 1 cup brown sugar
  • 2 cups chocolate chips – about 1 package

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. Line a 9×13 inch rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper, ensuring it covers the entire bottom.
  3. Lightly spray the parchment paper and sides of the pan with non-stick cooking spray.
  4. Arrange about 40 saltine crackers in a single, even layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  5. Break a few crackers in half if needed to fully cover the surface without gaps.
  6. Add 1 cup of unsalted butter and 1 cup of packed brown sugar to a medium heavy-bottomed saucepan.
  7. Melt the butter and sugar over medium-high heat.
  8. Stir gently in the middle of the pot just until combined.
  9. Once the mixture begins to bubble across the entire surface (middle and edges), set a timer for exactly 3 minutes.
  10. Let the mixture boil without stirring for the full 3 minutes.
  11. Immediately pour the hot toffee over the saltine crackers.
  12. Use a spatula to spread the toffee evenly over the entire tray, ensuring each cracker is coated.
  13. Bake the toffee layer for 5 minutes at 350°F, until the caramel is bubbling evenly across the surface.
  14. Remove the baking sheet from the oven.
  15. Let it cool for 1-2 minutes.
  16. Sprinkle 2 cups of chocolate chips evenly over the hot toffee layer.
  17. Place the tray back into the warm, turned-off oven for 1 minute to soften the chocolate.
  18. Remove the pan from the oven.
  19. Gently spread the melted chocolate into a smooth, even layer, covering all edges.
  20. Let the candy cool on the counter for 20 minutes.
  21. Refrigerate the candy for 3-4 hours, or until completely firm.
  22. Once fully chilled, lift the cracker candy out of the pan using the parchment paper.
  23. Transfer the candy to a cutting board.
  24. Slice into squares or break into pieces by hand.
  25. Serve and enjoy!

Notes

Always use a heavy-bottomed saucepan for the toffee to prevent burning.
Do not stir the toffee once it starts boiling to ensure proper crystallization.
Ensure the chocolate chips are sprinkled over warm toffee for easy melting and spreading.
Chill the candy completely for at least 3-4 hours for clean breaks and slices.
