These adorable mini cakes are decorated to look like tiny pies, offering three delicious flavors in one easy-to-make treat.

Ingredients

  • 1 box Drake’s Pound Cake Mini Bites
  • Buttercream frosting
  • Red food coloring
  • Orange food coloring
  • Brown food coloring
  • Pumpkin pie spice (optional)
  • Red sugar pearls
  • Cherry extract for baking (optional)
  • Apple pie filling
  • Wilton #3 decorating tip
  • Wilton #5 decorating tip
  • Wilton #10 decorating tip
  • Wilton #16 decorating tip
  • Wilton #32 decorating tip
  • Disposable piping bags

Instructions

  1. Divide the buttercream into 4 small bowls.
  2. Mix red food coloring into one bowl of buttercream.
  3. Mix orange food coloring into a second bowl of buttercream.
  4. Mix brown food coloring into a third bowl of buttercream.
  5. Keep the 4th bowl of buttercream white.
  6. For pumpkin pie mini cakes, frost the top of the cake bites with orange frosting using a knife.
  7. Using a #16 piping tip, pipe a scallop edge around the pumpkin mini cakes with brown frosting.
  8. Using a #32 piping tip, pipe a small star of white buttercream in the middle of each pumpkin mini cake.
  9. Sprinkle pumpkin pie spice on top of the pumpkin mini cakes, if desired.
  10. For cherry pie mini cakes, frost the top of the cake bites with red frosting.
  11. Optionally, add a very small amount of cherry extract to the red frosting for flavor.
  12. Sprinkle a few red sugar pearls on top of the cherry mini cakes.
  13. Using a #3 round piping tip, pipe lines in a grid pattern on top of the cherry mini cakes with brown frosting.
  14. Using a #16 piping tip, pipe a scallop edge around the cherry mini cakes with brown frosting.
  15. For apple pie mini cakes, finely chop the apple pie filling.
  16. Spread the chopped apple pie filling on top of the cake bites.
  17. Using a #5 piping tip, pipe lines in a grid pattern on top of the apple mini cakes with brown frosting.
  18. Using a #10 piping tip, pipe an edge around the apple mini cakes for the crust with brown frosting.
  19. Take a toothpick and make small lines around the piped brown crust to create a crimped look.
  20. Pipe a dollop of white buttercream in the middle of each apple mini cake bite.

Notes

Use gel food coloring for vibrant colors without thinning the frosting.
Chill decorated mini cakes briefly to set frosting before moving.
Practice piping on parchment paper first if you’re new to it.
Have all ingredients and tools ready before you start decorating.
